Notetaking
When to begin

Before you begin taking notes, make sure you have analysed the essay question and have read over your lecture notes and the relevant literature broadly enough to get an overview of the themes. Try to remain flexible when identifying the relevant themes, as you often uncover new themes and omit old ones as your understanding broadens. You should really only begin taking notes when you have an understanding of the broader topic and a fair idea of the evidence available to inform and support your argument.
