Referring

REMEMBER that clearly referring to ideas, subjects and objects throughout the text adds to the effectiveness of your writing because the reader can clearly follow the chains of meaning across your text.

Four main techniques have been demonstrated in this unit which allow you to clearly refer ideas throughout a text:

Repeating the key subject words in a text

Replacing key subject words with synonyms

Replacing key subject words with demonstratives

Replacing key subject words with pronouns

Using these methods will help improve the effectiveness of your text.
