Before people learned the secret of glassmaking, nature made glass in two different ways. When lightning strikes sand the heat sometimes fuses the sand into long, slender glass tubes called fulgurites, which are commonly called petrified lightning. The intense heat of a volcanic eruption also sometimes fuses rocks and sand into a glass called obsidian. Think about which version of the passage made more sense to you. © Copyright 2000 Comments and questions should be directed to Unilearning@uow.edu.au
